lyrics
Do we call this home?
do we roam and lie pretty on the land up-lit by the settling sun
and pretend we’re the sons and daughters of international strangers?;
the orphan itinerants
of lovers who parted ways
under the glass and lattice of
eastern train terminals
to become the ghosts that linger
in the books we read
of cold war romance
buckled and shamed
by new geographies.
or is home the place
we can ill-afford?
an affront to all our bids
to outgrow to hope to seek to love to want to speak
of glamour
swift and cruel
of devotions
cast and lost
on the threadbare red velvet
of old hotel lobbies
a witness to histories insisting on their own expiration.
and oh, but I want to die out there.

The singular approach James Joys has long applied to deconstructed electronica, detailed sound design and carefully constructed language, folded into a world of choral texture and literally given new breath. Stunning, troubling and cathartic. Pete Devlin's voice is, as ever, a marvel. Cannot recommend enough. John Pope

Mary Halvorson is a genius composer and guitarist who has developed her own musical language, and with Code Girl she has incorporated poetry into that language. Incredible compositions and lyricism (each track is a different kind of poem). Halvorson's playing is as great as usual, and all the other members of the band sound great. Robert Wyatt's singing in particular works extremely well in the tracks he's featured. Highly, highly recommend. rat
A dreamy, sonically diverse coming-of-age story from NYC artist mỹ tâm, who infuses art pop with elements of jazz and chiptune.
